7. As regards the European staff Commander Hastings recommends that
(a) The lodging allowance of the Chief Clerk be increased from $360 to 540 per annum.
(b) The salary of the Superintendent of the Registration Branch be increased by 360 per annum and a lodging allowance at the rate of 180 per annum be granted to that officer.
(c) The salary of the Superintendent of the Money Order Office be increased by 432 per annum.
I can only submit the Postmaster-General's reasons for making these recommendations and state that I believe the officers concerned to be deserving of your favourable consideration.
8. The improvements in the internal arrangements of the Post Office suggested by the Postmaster-General will be carried out, and I venture to hope that the general recommendations detailed above will receive your approval, which I shall be glad to receive by telegraph, in order that the department may be placed in a more satisfactory state as soon as possible.
